Mandi’s Favorite Quote: “Do you want that, Gav? You wanna be my cock whore?”

Firefighter Brad Archer has a crush on his roommate Gavin. Openly gay, Brad lives in agony that his seemingly sexually confused friend walks around half naked all of the time. Brad knows Gavin has dated women, and he also thinks Gavin might be interested in men, but Brad has never come out and asked him.

Gavin is a cop, who was recently involved in a shooting of a nineteen year old. Stressed and on leave while the mess gets sorted out, he hits the alcohol to make it all better. He has been crushing on Brad for years, as their paths cross occasionally due to work. When he saw a notice that Brad had an opening for a roommate, Gavin thought this was the perfect way to make his move. Except Brad is cold, and has never shown interest in Gavin. But now with a little liquid courage, Gavin makes a move – something they both have wanted for a long time.

Packing Heat is a very erotic novella by Kele Moon. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – Kele Moon writes hot smut. This book turns out to have a very naughty and dirty hero in Brad. A big, hunkin’ firefighter who is dominate in the bedroom as Gavin soon finds out. There is much naughty talk:

“Then do it.” Brad’s hold on Gavin’s hair was still unforgiving as he leaned in, whispering in his ear. “You like it dirty; I do too. Be filthy; beg me for it. Be a complete cock whore.”
Seriously, I loved how dirty Brad is in this book. So this book gets high marks for sex. Outside of the bedroom, the plot is a little thin. I think Brad and Gavin go from friends to lovers really quick without really ever thinking about the consequences. They actually go from friends, to lovers to “I love you” really quick. I would have liked to see their relationship play out a little more.

I also think things move really quick in terms of them figuring out if they want a relationship or not. They have one wild night of sex and then Brad pushes Gavin away due to issues from his past. It felt like we needed more time to have these two figure out how to be together as lovers.

So I think this book needed to be longer for me to feel happy with Brad and Gavin as a couple – it all felt too rushed. But the sex and Brad’s dirty talk get high marks.
