it was amazing
bookshelves: noir-fantasy, american-fiction
Read from January 18 to February 16, 2012

Well, five stars might be somewhat excessive, but this is the first worthy successor to Susanna Clarke I've come across. Magic realism grounded in believable characters. The creations within the circus made my architecturally inclined heart ache that they exist only within the pages. Morgenstern has a phenomenal ability to convey imagery and mood. Her imagination is damn good to boot. My only complaint would be the farm boy was a little too deus ex machina, making the ending seem not quite earned. Still, this is an early contender for my book of the year.

Kara I just finished that! I loved it...

Leif Erik Yeah. I'm half way though and it's the best fiction of its kind I've read since Jonathan Strange.
