Popsugar challenge 2020 - A book with a pink cover
I've managed to live almost four decades without reading or watching this classic and I was pretty excited to get going. On paper this is my ideal story, boy meets girl, girl already has boy. In reality this wasnt my ideal at all, the play format is really not my jam and the theres only so much of 'yee art thou donkey' language that I can take.
Basically I didnt bond with anything except the bottle of poison.
This piece of literature is often associated with romanticizing suicide so from that standpoint it was an interesting read for me. And did I find it romantic? No. Tragic, most definitely yes.
I'm sorry Shakespeare, maybe I'd do better with a more modern translation. Who am I kidding, I'll watch the film!

Michelle, watch the 1968 film with Leonard Whiting, the old Norma Shearer version and the newer Leonardo DiCaprio version are both equally disappointing. However, the 1960's version is captivating.

It was considered pretty risqué at the time. But it did bring Shakespeare closer to me. Guess it did a good job.

Shakespeare is best on stage, but the more you read, the more you get used the the verbiage. Also you can find many copies with modern translations side-by-side.
When I was in high school we watched the original movie in class as we read the book, which helped but I don’t think I can say I enjoyed it, or would choose it on my own - The language is tough. I had already seen the more modern version of the movie at that point too.
Shakespeare is very hard I think. My mom is an English teacher and she got me the 1968 version as well to watch as I read for class. It helped sooo much. It even helped me appreciate it more. When I was a senior I went to England and we went to the Globe Theater in Stratfod. It was very interesting, the play was good enough, but very difficult to understand I thought. I don't know that I can ever read or watch As You Like it again. But I can at least say I have been.

I ..."Right! Sometimes i feel im pushing myself to read this kind of stuff because i feel i should and i need to stop, theres no happiness for me in reading them :)

I was mostly immune to the ye's and art thou's. Mostly because I had to suffer through some bible shit! Yay, religious grandparents? Ugh. After that, Shakespeare was a breeze! I do love all the movies. Not that old crap, but 1980's and forward stuff!

I'm always amazed that the bible comes top of any most read book list, ive only ever seen a few passages but thats heavy shit indeed!
I'm often astounded by the bible passages that I know! It's not my doing. And I'm not religious. I was forced into this.What I believe is not that.

The bible is the greatest hoax of all. Hey, it's a best seller!. Can't sleep! Have no money, but hey...lookey there! It's a freaking bible..Argh! All is well, because of the Saviour.! Trump raised some unknown bible. He had peaceful protesters cleared for.those fine "ahm, hmmm" Christians and his bible photo!

I bet he's never read anything from the bible. He and his Christian stuff is not even near to close of what a man named Jesus would want.

This was the drama we had to study for the O Levels exam. Most of us were more interested to see if Friar Lawrence and the Nurse ever got around to getting together romantically.... sadly it never happened 😕.
