liked it
bookshelves: contemporary-fiction

I liked the three connected stories "Hema and Kaushik" best. Their rich imagery and construction offered much to savor and think about. The unusual point of view, the stories addressed to "you", heightened the elegy of their fated but incomplete relationship. The passage in which Kaushik shows Hema the family graves in the woods was a powerful moment, rich in symbolism, but simple and believable. It was hard, though, to sympathize with Kaushik's continuing self-absorption.
