it was amazing

This was a fascinating story about an alternate steampunk world where America is known as Albion and many of the states have become areas known with different names.

This is the story of Desmond and his charge Lij who both hail from Jamaica and are on the run to keep powerful factions from trying to capture Lij who is equal parts a young boy and also powerful and possibly turn him into a powerful weapon. When Desmond is shot while on the run and his wound become infected, he finds himself and Lij the unexpected guests of a Native American (known as The First Nation) tribe the Seminoles who are a fierce enemy who protect those under their care.

Desmond is eager to seek temporary asylum for him and his charge until he is well enough to hopefully travel and get to Canada. Little does he realize that may be the best place to be is with the Seminoles whose kinship could very well be just the kind of environment that Lij needs.

With an enemy agent named Cayt on his tail and a growing fondness for Lij, Desmond will have to make the hard decision on whether to continue to be on the run or stay where he may have allies. A war is brewing and hard choices will have to be made.

Full of adventure, intrigue, a healthy dash of steampunk, fascinating tales and surprises, it was a very interesting read and I'm glad that I had a chance to fall into this world for a time.
