really liked it
bookshelves: graphic-novel

Not as enjoyable or accomplished as other Alan Moore stories I've read (Watchmen, say), but perfectly gripping, and David Lloyd's art is fantastic, especially when portraying action. The way scenes are intertwined is, as usual, highly cinematic, which I love.

I wish I hadn't seen the film first, as it stayed close enough to the original story to render most plot twists unsurprising (while removing most of the peripheral characters and all nuance in the process). Still, the thoughtfulness and intelligence of the writing makes it well worth a read, even - or perhaps especially - if you're not quite convinced by the politics.
