really liked it
bookshelves: historical-fiction, fantasy

I loved this book until the epilogue. The closing was why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It was captivating and exciting at every turn. I loved the mixture of history and mythology along the way. I was surprised by the twist, in part because I was not expecting the mythology to be as prominent as it became after that point.
The ending felt a bit rushed, in my opinion. The big fight I was eager for didn't happen, and it made it seem like the enemy was too easily beaten. Once the enemy was revealed I wanted to see how Merrin would win, but we don't get to see it.
The story ends with a good mixture of open and closed. They beat the enemy and look forward to what they will be facing next.
