Read 2 times. Last read January 28, 2020 to January 29, 2020.

Jan 2020: Turns out listening to the audio is just as awesome as reading the book!

Dec 2018: This second outing with DI Stephens and Max Mephisto was just as gripping and fascinating as the first. Now that the backstory is out of the way in the first novel, the characters' stories are firmly in present-day Brighton, where Max has come to perform in a holiday pantomime. His troupe becomes involved in the murders being investigated by Edgar, and it seems that history may be repeating itself. Or is it? Filled with lots of clues and leads to follow, some of which turn out to be classic misdirection, like smoke and mirrors, it's an entertaining novel. There is plenty of fascinating detail about post-war England, theatrical troupes, and fairy tales. Loved it!
