really liked it
Read in January, 2012

Cinder is supposed to be this sci-fi version of a re-telling of Cinderella. The main parts: having a step mom and stepsisters,a prince charming, and being treated like a servant remain unchanged but other than that the story's totally unique. The setup is in New Beijing, quite a few years after WWIV, and which is the capital of an empire called The Eastern Commonwealth.(I'm guessing it consists of Korea,Japan,China,Philippines,Singapore and other neighboring countries of that area)

I'm picturing Prince Kai(who is the ruler of the Eastern Commonwealth,by the way) as this hot Korean guy whom I kept staring at during my flight to Seoul last winter. He was sitting across the aisle in the same row.I think he found out that I was staring at him and looked uncomfortable but I really don't care about his feelings since I'll most probably never see him again. And also because according to Ripley's Believe It Or Not,It's rude not to stare! ;)

A must-read for those who liked the re-tellings of Alex Flinn

Marissa Meyer
“He was the fantasy of every girl in the country. He was so far out of realm, her world, that she should have stopped thinking about him the second the door had closed. Should stop thinking about him immediately. Should never think about him again, except maybe as a client--and her prince.
And yet, the memory of his fingers against her skin refused to fade.”

“Imagine there was a cure, but finding it would cost you everything. It would completely ruin your life. What would you do?”

“Soon, the whole world would be searching for her--Linh Cinder.
A deformed cyborg with a missing foot.
A Lunar with a stolen identity.
A mechanic with no one to run to, nowhere to go.
But they will be looking for a ghost.”

“I'm sure I'll feel much more grateful when I find a guy who thinks complex wiring in a girl is a turn-on.”

“Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth.”
