it was ok
bookshelves: cozy-mystery, fiction, murder, mystery

So, I picked up this series after enjoying the first one. This story fell flat for me. I like the characters, but the situation of bird poaching and an ornithological society was not in my wheelhouse.

The Cozy Corgi, Fred's bookstore, opened with Katie's bakery upstairs. Katie hired Sammy as a baker's assistant. Fred runs around playing detective leaving her brand-new bookstore without a clerk. Yes, I think more of this story should have centered on the bookstore.

Maybe I have zeroed in on the author's style, but I had the murderer pinned early in this story. No, I did not see the "bird room" (ha!), but was rather certain who the murderer was.

With a setting of Estes Park and a national park present, more description of the scenery would be perfect, methinks. Fred, Watson, Katie, et al. are fun characters, but this story was a bit thin for me.
