really liked it

The Woman in White is considered the first mystery novel, so many of the "surprises" in the books were easily guessed (this probably would not have been the case for the 19th century reader!) Even though some of the plot wasn't quite as much of a shock, it was still a very enjoyable book.

Marion Halcombe was one of the best heroines I have encountered. She is so witty that she gives the male characters a run for their money. It is unfortunate that most of the women in Victorian fiction who are the least bit intelligent are always ugly. In this case Collins even mentions that she has a mustache!
