it was ok
bookshelves: wasted-time

This was the big book getting lots of hype at the Frankfurt book fair 2 years ago. I just finished the ARC. I was disappointed since I was expecting a smart, literary mystery. Unfortunately, the book is simply a Dan Brown wannabe. Shallow characters and awkwardly written (the author describes the London skyline as mauve - can't help but ruin the narrative by using the word mauve!) The premise of finding a lost Shakespeare play and the descriptions of the factions in Shakespearean scholarship are intriguing, but fail to salvage the overall book.
