really liked it
bookshelves: pulitzer-prize

This is the second in a series of six novels that Guthrie wrote about the West. While each of these books was written to be a stand alone novel, I highly recommend to anyone who wants to really read and appreciate this Pulitzer Prize winner to read "The Big Sky" (the first of the series) prior to starting "The Way West". Not only is there at least a character continuation, more importantly there's a foundation that is laid by the author in "The Big Sky" which makes "The Way West" so much more enjoyable when read in sequence. I am a fan of the early West anyway but these two books are beautifully written and give the reader both a visual and an emotional feeling for what it was like to live during this part of our country's history.
