This book is magic. It is magic made of candy coated crack. From the first page, where the author describes the men of Bronte novels as "alcoholic dickbags", I was completely hooked.

Basically Kate Beaton has created a fantastic collection of comics where she makes fun of history (American and Canadian), literature, Victorian culture, the middle ages, bad 50's book cover art, Nancy Drew, and really anything that strikes her fancy. The result is smart and hilarious. From Lady Macbeth's boner to Gay Watson to Oh Mr. Darcy!, she manages to keep the reader laughing and turning pages by pointing out the awkwardness, sexism, and shameless dickery in what is often considered 'high' culture.
