The writing style evoked a lot of emotion. Joseph Boyden was just really good at putting himself in someone else's shoes. That's the only way I can think to describe it. The book is based on the true story of Chanie Wenjack, who died trying to escape from a residential school. It was creatively written and was a good way to expose the horrors of the residential school system to ignorant Canadians, managing to communicate a very powerful message in only about a hundred pages. It's a great quick-read.
