** spoiler alert ** This book was weird… lovely but weird. The whole concept of the story was brilliant. Reading about all the creatures normal and mystical was very interesting especially the Kraken and how he balances the world. The only Kraken I know of is the horrible monster from the movie Clash of the Titans. It was a nice little spin that the author gave it, I do wonder though; how the very male Kraken had a son, lol…I guess it’s an animal thing. Why the sisters discovered a “magical” island but didn’t have/develop any powers or anything to keep the creatures safe is beyond me. That the sisters felt that they had to kidnap children to help them on the island was weird also, I mean how could they have never thought to have their own children??? Hearing how the children were previously treated however, I didn’t want them to go back home. I’m glad the children the sisters did choose learn to appreciate and value the island the way they themselves did. I’m also pleased that Mr. Sprott got what he deserved in the end… like he was already rich with a jerk for a son, he didn’t need anything more. The fact that he was being greedy with the intention to harm was just maddening! And Lambert was just a jerk in his own right at such a young age, that was horrible and he deserved what he got also. To sum it up Eva’s book was a very smooth and charming read… personally it made me feel like I was in 3rd grade again, in Mrs. Miller class reading one of my many book in a bean bag chair lol…(sigh) good times
