** spoiler alert ** So far, Faith of the Fallen is my absolute favorite book in The Sword of Truth Series. Taking a break from the brutality of the Imperial Order's invasion, we get to come along with Richard as he changes the world just by being himself. I loved his interactions with new characters in a strange new setting.

Meanwhile, we get a closer look at Kahlan in her element, leading the D'Haran Empire in battle. The woman who coated herself in chalk and took vengeance on the first Imperial troops to leave their mark on the Midlands arises again. The balance between Richard's isolated existence and Kahlan's furious one are perfect.

Faith of the Fallen was ripe with all of my favorite elements of the series: Multidimensional characters that are knowable but not predictable, and plot turns and developments that surprise/please/excite in every chapter.
