really liked it

Update 12-21-18: Please know that even though this won the GoodReads best of the year in horror, it is NOT a horror novel. A little unsettling, yes (as I said below) but not really scary unless you count prejudices against fellow humans frightening. Also, this is a book with a good message to recommend to teens who want (or need) a short book.

Ever have one of those dreams where while you can't fly, can leap dozens of feet with one jump just like you were on the moon? In this slim novel, that's what happens to Scott. As he continues to lose weight (without changing body shape!), he realizes it's easier for him to walk, run, and go up and down stairs, but it's not particularly a good thing. Anyway, I can't say much more without giving away the plot but this was a lovely, if not a little unsettling, story of acceptance, love, and having the capability to change minds and prejudices. And, dang you, Stephen King, it even made me a little weepy.
