A nice little Holiday read and I loved the premise of this story! Fantastic!
When a winter storm grounds a plane full of people heading to NY for the holidays it's forced to land in the middle of nowhere, a town called Bethlehem. Yep! It's Christmas. Seat mates Noel, who is very pregnant and next to her Ally, who is flying to NY to get married. Ally's concerned she hasn't heard from her fiancé, now stranded adds to the stress. This little town comes through by housing the entire plane full of people, each home taking as many as they can to make them feel at home. There's no hotel or accommodations to handle that many people. The airport consists of one building.
Noel and Ally end up staying with the same family, Ally now used to Noel's incessant talking, they are warmly welcomed by Jake's family. Jake not so much. Jake runs the diner in town. The holidays are not happy times for him, he's lost a love and frankly self absorbed. Totally. Made him hard to like for me. Ally goes through the ringer while there with her now ex fiancé and the hits for her just keep coming. Jake and Ally dance around each other constantly throughout the story. Meanwhile Noel ever the optimist is doing her best now anxious to get home to her hubby. She's cute as a bug, she grows on you through the story. Good laughs there. Jake's family is great and the people of the town are amazing. They made the book. Totally. While I felt the book ran a little long and Jake wasn't a relatable character, the thrust of the book which brings the meaning of the holidays forward was spectacular. Applause for that. The authors note in the back of the book explains the premise which made it even better and a timely reminder for the upcoming holidays.
