This one started off a bit slowly I thought. I was constantly aware of the attention to detail (scrupulous attention to Victorian language, British spelling, vocabulary) used by the author, and I admire that intensity of detail; but somehow the voice irritated me a little. The story is VERY unique and imaginative, and I did enjoy the intrigue, but I was always hyper-aware that the author is American, writing in a British voice. Probably this says more about my psyche than hers. Still, I recommend it, particularly if you like mystery and Conan Doyle (with a unique flourish).
