I was as well backer of the project, because i worked with Gary on some projects, and found his writing and ideas frankly great, especially in France, where science fiction always feels like second grade reading ( do frenchies know how speculative fiction predicted the wolrd of today...50 years ago. I would call it clairvoyance )
When i heard of the project H+ i jumped on the possibility of being part of the project and immediately backed it. When i got to read the script i felt immense potential, but started to get doubtful on how Gary would manage to find a proper hero, develop a great story, and especially conclude a story based on such a grim and dark setup.
Fortunately, Gary is a fantastic science fiction author. I have to admit that i had to listen to the audio book, as i could not find enough personal time to immerse myself reading it. But i don't regret it. Not only the audio book translate the universe of H+ to perfection, but i could work and listen to this brilliant new world at the same time.
It took me some times though as i often had to rewind to make sure i got all this deep script right. But man it was enjoyable. At times sad, at times hard, at times tensed...but most importantly, throughout fun.
The action is well paced, and the inclusion of some humour is so welcomed, i cannot praise this enough. I found myself laughing at time, and it made the overall experience enjoyable.
I found the characters very well developed, and enjoyable to follow. In this world of extended people, i found the protagonists human, and this was probably my favorite part. In a world full of robotic elements, the human part is what fascinated me most.
I was affraid to reach the end too fast, but the pacing was very well handled, and by the last line, it was a deeply satisfying experience. I can only recommend people to dig into this great novel. And hopefully the movie will follow soon, as it would make a fantastic Sci-Fi indie gem.
