it was amazing

What a gifted writer! I just loved being in her sentences, first of all. Heartfelt story of a woman in her 50s whose husband has asked for a “pause” in their marriage because he’s fallen for another woman. A poet and academic, she has a break-down and goes home to Minnesota for the summer, spends time with her aging mother and her friends, and also with some pre-teen girls who are taking poetry from her. The delight of this novel is the intelligent and ironic voice of the protagonist, whose life is shattered but who can’t help coming alive. Here you’ve got a plot that has all the potential to be hen-lit cliché, and absolutely is not. It just goes to show, it’s all in the writing.
