it was amazing
bookshelves: santa-cruz

There is something terse and severe about this book - from its language, to its characters, to its setting, to its length - terse, severe, reserved . . . and utterly perfect. The most riveting, and unique, fantasy I've read in quite a long time. And King's style is - in my mind - utterly perfect.

I loved the controlled telling, the limited characters, the tightly focused plot. And, yes, I loved all that was not included - the hints and allusions and flashbacks that gave us just enough, but never too much.

I loved this so much, I was afraid to read on in the series. It felt so perfect, I wasn't quite sure where King could possibly take it that would be anywhere but down . . . (spoiler alert: turns out King's better than I expected).
