it was amazing
bookshelves: history, non-fiction

It's probably obvious from some of my reviews that I love books with lots of interesting details scattered about. That's basically what this book was. A whole city filled with eccentric people, and most of them had either a) an interesting story about themselves or b) an interesting story about a historical figure who was even MORE eccentric. And then a bizarre everyone-knew-it-was-coming murder, and a murder trial that's MUCH stranger than fiction. You just can't make this stuff up. (Well, the author may have made some of it up. But he does it with style.) Very fun, very fast read.
