it was amazing

Awesomeness. An entertaining, fascinating, thorough, balanced biography of an amazing climber and thoroughly unpleasant human being. I hadn't read Perrin before, but I will now. He does a masterful job of research, combining narrative with quotes from numerous published sources plus numerous interviews. I kept expecting it to bog down in detail - VS that, HVS this - but Jim's story-telling was true to the master, always engaging, every bit worth reading.

My intro to climbing was, kindasorta, drooling over Annapurna South Face from the MIT library in the late 70's. No doubt it helps to be "up" somewhat on the whole British rock scene / Bonnington / Alps and Himalayas thing. Those who don't "rock" might find it mystifying...

Highly recommended.
