This is one of my go to comfort books. It's a fantastic tale and I've read it often enough that I can quote large portions of it. The characters are wonderful and Sunshine is a fantastic narrator. I also like how it's a vampire novel that isn't a romance (which is amusing considering the Vampire genre as well as McKinley's other works) and it's only tangentially a vampire book. They are only important in so far as they're a catalyst to Sunshine's inheritance of her powers. I love Charlie and the Coffeehouse and the entire world. It's a world I wish McKinley would delve into more. Even if it were a story that had nothing to do with Sunshine, like the way The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown are in the same world. I just want to know so much about the world, McKinley lays so many beautiful red slippers that I just want to see them all.
