really liked it
bookshelves: nonfiction
Read from May 12 to 14, 2012

NYT scent critic Burr's book on the perfume industry showing the develpment process for two scents: Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely and Jean Claude Ellena's Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. Also includes bits about how tastes differ on different continents, fragrance industry licensing/contracts/sales figures/promotions budgets, natural vs. artificial (and why natural isn't always good), indoles, musk, and Grasse (the center of the French perfume industry). If you are curious about how businesses actually work or how perfumes are developed you will really enjoy this. If you are only reading for the bits about Sarah Jessica Parker you may be best served by skipping around.
