I'm all over the place on what I thought of this one. The writing was amazing, but it did go on for a bit too long at times. Plus the premise (a girl goes through a box of items related to her broken-up relationship, and talks about each one in a very long letter to the ex-boyfriend) did make the structure of the book repetitive at times. Also, in the beginning, it was almost painful to read because it dredged up the memory of every single bad high school breakup.

I will say, though, that there were passages of pure brilliance, and that the actual reason of why they broke up totally took me by surprise. And Maira Kalman's illustrations are amazing.
