bookshelves: nonfiction, politics, presidents, elections

A fine, fast read that gives politicos a nice inside look at the 2012 presidential race - so far. Evan Thomas and Mike Allen are two of the most highly regarded political reporters, and Mike Allen's Politico Playbook is one of the most anticipated daily email that insiders receive. Apparently this short book is the first of a number that offers a "realtime" look at the 2012 presidential race. Clearly, as President Obama is going to be the Dem nominee again, this part of the book really chronicles the early efforts of the Republicans. It ends just as Herman Cain is nosediving and Newt Gingrich is starting his ascent to the top of the polls (a short visit to the top, we now know). Anyway, IF you find the election process mildly interesting and IF you want an easy read that offers a reliable overview, this is for you.
