I read this for my in-person book club which loves to read about WW2. Me, not so much. I mean, another Auschwitz book? This is based on a true story, based on interviews from the source, about a Slovakian man who was selected to work under the SS umbrella as tetovierer, tattooing sorted prisoners with their numbers. He also found love in a concentration camp, with another Slovakian. I felt like the writing wasn't great, and I felt she missed some moments that could have held greater meaning. I think this could have been better kept as non-fiction. Overall I think people will be fond of the novel because of the setting and the end of the story. I liked reading more about it outside the novel, for instance this interview (with pictures) and this video with the author.
