Scary Stories Treasury is a hardback collector’s edition released in 2004. It’s a big volume holding all three Scary Stories books, also available in paperback, and I reviewed each in individual reviews. Alvin Schwartz collected and retold these tales of folklore, and Stephen Gammell adds illustrations that create an atmosphere and add depth to the reading experience. These books have become “banned” over the years, mainly at the public-school level. It was in elementary school when I first discovered these twisted tales with their haunted imagery. First is 1981’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Second is 1984’s More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Third is 1991’s Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones, the worst of the trilogy. I also wrote a preview of this hardback collection before reviewing the first individual piece. In the individual reviews, I focused on the stories.
