Worth reading if you are a fan of Tibetan culture but I expected a bit more. I am also used to climbers writing about the mountains with their life/death narratives so this felt a bit calm. He travels to Kailas, a mountain sacred to "1/5 of the human population." That sacred energy does not imbue the book but I did love this quotation:

"As it's homeless Buddhism opened to the West--whether as a faith; a therapy; or a fashionable cult; the country itself was lost.

Profoundly true and heartbreaking.
