It took me a long time to get into this book, but I'm glad I did. If I could split the book into pieces I would give the beginning a definite 3 and the end more like a 3.75 or so. As a whole it rounded out at about an 3.5. The beginning of the book was very slow for me. I had a bit of a hard time connecting to the characters, especially Jonathan and Laura. In addition, when I began the book I felt that I had been dropped into the middle of a story, instead of at the beginning. I'm not sure what about the beginning exactly made me feel that way, but the story just seemed to lack something. I have to say, I never did really get invested in some of the characters at all.

I'm glad I stayed with the book, though, as about 30% of the way through or so it started to pick up for me. I began to wonder what the connection was between all of the characters, what were red herrings and what was actual and began anticipating what twists to the story might occur. As the story progressed, there were a few twists and turns, some of them surprises, some of them not really surprising. Some good and some that fell a bit flat. Then there were a few questions I looked forward to having explained that were never addressed at all. All in all, this book was a thoroughly enjoyable read, but it did not take my breath away, nor did it make me say...AHHHH, that is what is really going on. As a complete read, though, I would recommend it.
