Beautiful. Vulnerable. Raw. Flawless.

- Follows Emoni, a Black/Puerto-Rican teen who is also a teen mother, and how she wrestles with being a mum, being a teen, daring to follow her dreams, and the weight of responsibility.
- Food is at the center of this book, and I loved it. Emoni has a gift for cooking and food; she can evoke memories through her creative and inventive cooking, and the story culminates in her leading a fundraiser to try and fund her culinary class's trip to Spain.
- I really loved how his story explored the responsibility she has a young mother and the duty she feels to her daughter balanced with Emoni herself being a teen and needing the parental love that she gives to her daughter.
- The storytelling was beautiful, vulnerable, raw, and so real. Acevedo is one of the best storytellers alive today.
