The horror and adjustment of the Metamorphosis is lost here, as for some reason a kitten is not a suitable replacement creature. in fact the description of the progressive life with the Samsa family makes less sense and this is totally absurd. The middle passages which almost double the size of the original Kafka work, is more Kafka work in the vein of the Trial. it is interesting what changes and what is the same, and the mixing of two works makes for some thought provoking stuff, but this amalgam and twisting of a very good work, lets it down overall. if you know the Metamorphosis and the Trial this is eyebrow raising but largely ti just is a curious piece which isn't nearly as good as what it comes from.
