This is the true story of a Polish zookeeper's wife and her husband, and family. This wonderful animal loving family not only took care of a wonderful array of animals, but also hid Jews from the invading Germans. The risks to them were tremendous. But despite the dangers the family and their hiding guests enjoyed their lives in their home. It was a home full of strange animals, music, and laughter, too. I loved the book.
