Haven't read this ... "classic" doesn't begin to describe it, so let's just go with Epic Chant(?) ... since high school, when as an apathetic jock, I found myself greatly surprised to be entranced by this work (Ciardi translation, though at the time that meant nothing to me).

I've read a lot of Carson's poetry -- and seen him read a few times -- so among the many, many Dante choices (Mandelbaum, Pinsky, Hollanders, etc), I thought he'd make a good return to this book. I've been very pleased with it so far. More later ...
