Yahia Lababidi’s Trial by Ink is a collection of wonderful essays. If you're unfamiliar with Lababidi's work, he writes striking prose and he often alerts you to cultural insights you would certainly miss without reading him. My personal favorites in the collection were the following pieces: "The Wood That Finds Itself a Violin", "The Great Contrarians", and "Crises, and their Uses".
