I don't say this often, but Moxie is a must-read for basically everyone over the age of 13 or so. It's The Hate U Give for the #MeToo movement (or one version of what that could be, anyway -- we need many books to tell these stories in different ways). It's about calling in rather than calling out; about how small acts of bravery can build a community; about not giving up on your small town, or your best friend who isn't so sure about feminism, or your boyfriend who thinks it's more likely that a girl lied about rape than that she was raped, or your mom who grew out of her riot grrrl past. It celebrates learning to be an activist in a way that takes ownership of your culture and creates something beautiful. It is a very young-Millennial, 21st century book in the best possible way. I graduated from high school in 1996, in a pre-internet era when sticking your neck out was vaguely mocked, and it breaks my heart to imagine who I'd be if I'd had this book or the zeitgeist it speaks to. I can't wait to give it to as many kids as possible.

Btw, for slightly younger kids, The First Rule of Punk has some of the same vibe: sticking up for who you are in an environment that tries to hold you to mediocrity, formation of a badass girl identity, and of course zines.
