really liked it
bookshelves: graphic-novel-format, juvenile-info

I had a hard time rating this book. It was incredibly well-done, but as an animal lover, I hated the story. However, seeing as it's based on truth, I guess there isn't much to be done about that. I wasn't particularly comforted by Gazenko's admission that it wasn't worth it in the end, but I guess it's nice to know that the people involved lived with their regrets and I liked this ending to the book. It's hard to imagine what the world was like at this time--particularly in the Soviet Union and I did appreciate Abadzis' efforts to illustrate the difficult position of those without the power to change the situation.

On a more professional observational level, as a reader, I appreciated the afterward and the list of sources (including lots of web sites) would be good for a reader looking to get more information on the topic.
