The Crime of Father Amaro
Dec 23, 2011
A splendid book. It was hard for me to get into in the beginning-too many names, so much detail. I read about a hundred pages and stopped. Picked it up again awhile later, started taking some notes, but then was swept into the book all the way to the end. An attack on hypocrisy, a portrait of a society in decline whose influential people seem not to have a clue about its true nature, it is an interesting read in the United States of 2012. And it probably helped to have read part of it in Portugal, not too far from Leira, where most of the story takes place.
