it was ok
bookshelves: 2008

My first exposure to this tale was the 2003 Disney movie I watched last week. I foolishly decided to follow-up by reading the original story.

The tale is definitely unusual, and if I'd read it when I was 10, it might have been something that would provide good memories in the future. Of course, I'm now 35+, so reading a children's book is something of a challenge because of the simplicity of presentation. I found myself skimming over large tracts of text because I just didn't have the patience to deal with the basic presentation. If I'd not seen the movie, I'd probably have been better about it.

Anyways. Overall, an okay read for a 35 y.o. Probably a much higher-rated read for a young 'un!
