Best part of this book is it was only about four hours on audio.

A very disturbing story, difficult to get used to the dialect, and I am just wondering if it could have been better told differently.

The writing was good, but as much as I tried, I just couldn't relate to the story. I'm sure it will be a better read for other people, but even though I consider myself a very open-minded and progressive person, I really struggled with how the story was told.

What I found most challenging is that believe there was overkill on the dialect and language and writing style that was used. Then again, someone who had been in the same situation as the person telling the story or grew up in Harlem would be able to better appreciate this book than a 50-year-old California bred and raised "cracker" such as myself.

I do plan on watching the movie "Precious" on DVD which is based on this novel.
