Nick has not been present much the past few months, really hurting Rachel and just having her feel a little lost. He has not been dealing well with his accidentally becoming her familiar but not communicating with her about it and becoming a little suspicious secretive about other things as well. With Nick gone and Rachel reading between the lines and seeing that he isnt coming back decides to go on a date with Ivy's vampire friend Kisten. They all think its a bad idea but she wants to feel wanted and alive, the big adrenaline junkie she is. While out with Kisten she finds out there is a new crime boss in town closing the gap that Piscary's incarceration has caused. She also ends up helping out Trent when it comes to the new crime leader Saladin. In dealing more with Trent she finds out more about the link between them and their fathers and how she is actually still alive because of that association. Helping her out is shockingly Trent, to a small degree, Kisten her very new boyfriend, and her new Alpha werewolf David the insurance adjustor.
So many different dynamics in all the different relationships in this book. Rachel's friends and acquantances are just all so unpredictable which I guess is what adds some of the intrigue. Actually surprisingly love she and Kisten together, oddly enough considering the first few times they met and his history with Ivy. Curious to see if Nick shows back up and how agreeable Trent remains.
