really liked it
bookshelves: thriller, 2018-read

Dark. Very dark. Perhaps the darkest book I've ever read. I read it in one day, partly because it made me nervous just looking at the book as it lay on the coffee table, waiting for me to pick it up. That being said, David Joy truly understands the people and locales he writes about. He is a true talent at scene setting and characterization. This gritty book takes a deep look into the psyche of a man whose tether that holds him to sanity is badly frayed. It was chilling, and I'm going to have to read something light now to offset the scenes in my head.
