There were multiple quotes on the jacket of the book describing it as a "feisty" memoir. I would say that's accurate. Powell's matter of fact, cut & dry tone took a little getting used to, but once I was about halfway in, I found it really working for her story. Plus, I think that tone really added to the humor. I had difficulty at times deciding if she was doing that on purpose for comedic effect or if she was just that straightforward. There were definitely moments when I laughed out loud. Nothing too groundbreaking here, but an interesting view of an interesting time period.
