This is quite a good Christmas "magic" story. Its use of the usual tropes of such stories (e.g., "A Christmas Carol", "Groundhog Day", "Big") makes the plot arc, once the category is identified, pretty predictable and without anything that could be considered a significant twist.

The friendship between the two main characters is pretty well told, reminding me a little of "The Lost Language of Cranes". On a more intuitive level, however, the evolution of this relationship lacks a certain kind of "ommph" which is hard to explain.

Overall a satisfying if unamazing "magical" Christmas story.
