it was amazing

A pacey and dramatic work of history that reads as vividly as a novel and is a foundational text for understanding the current day situation in Haiti/the Dominican Republic and, by extension, how its example and lessons apply to the American South on one hand, and other colonies and former colonies on the other. James was a formidable intellect but this book is never less than a complete pleasure to read.
