really liked it

Recommended for: lovers of weird fiction

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was exactly what I was looking to read. It's written as a diary, which could've been a disaster. But Mr. James did a great job of making it work. I got a good sense of the narrator's personality, and suspense was maintained from entry to entry.

The book is very Lovecraftian in a lot of respects. The alien landscape and the inhabitants all remind me of those "unspeakable horrors" of Lovecraft's, only better described. At any rate, it's a great quick read that I found suspenseful, engrossing, and at points quite eerie. I especially loved the part where the narrator included pages from another journal that he had found. It was a great story within the story.

I'd recommend this for anyone who enjoys weird fiction.
