it was amazing

My dad gave me a big maroon book that has a collection of 6 of Vonneguts books (Slaughterhouse 5, Cats Cradle, Player Piano, BoC, Mother Night and Sirens of Titan) and it sat in my wardrobe for a couple of months. I hadn't really read anything in a couple of years (since leaving school ). One day something compelled me to pick up the collection and start reading, I started with Sirens

The story itself is fantastic and the characters are so real by the end of the book (despite the very unreal circumstances). I had never encounted an author who seemed to operate at the same wave length as me... Ever since reading this particular novel I haven't looked back, I read everything/anything and it's all because of Vonnegut.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to ease into the sci-fi genre (before you geeks get angry I use the term lightly, this book is more social satire than sci-fi). It has led me to authors like Heinlein and Peter F Hamilton, thus igniting my love for (more accurately sci-fi) books
